1. Download SMS Backup & Restore from the Google Play Store
2. Open the app and click Get Started
3. Allow all permissions
4. Click Set Up a Backup
5. Deselect Call Logs
6. Click Advanced Options
7. Deselect Attachments and Media
8. Click Selected Conversations Only, then Change
9. Select the conversation you want
10. Click Next, then select your phone
11. Turn off Schedule Recurring Backups
12. Click Backup Now
13. Click View Details
14. Click on the conversation
15. Click the three dots
16. Click Print and Save as PDF

Apple users

1. Open the chat you’d like to export
2. Tap the contact’s name
3. Tap Export Chat
4. Select Without Media

Android users

1. Open the chat you’d like to export
2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner
3. Tap More > Export chat
4. Select Without Media

1. Open the Facebook app on your phone
2. Tap the three lines in the top right > Settings Cog
3. Click into the Accounts Centre
4. Click Your information and permissions
5. Click Download your information
6. Click Request a download
7. On the next page, uncheck your Instagram profile if you have one so only your Facebook account is selected. Then click Next
8. Click Select types of information
9. Select Messages then click Next
10. Under Format, select JSON. Then click Submit Request
11. You will receive an email confirming your request, with a link to your Downloads page
12. Meta will take a while to gather your information
13. Once complete, you’ll receive an email saying your download is ready, click the link in this email
14. Click Download on this page, this will download a .zip folder to your device
15. Extract the contents
16. On your device, choose this file: {Your extracted folder} > your_activity_across_facebook > messages > inbox > {the chat you want to use} > message_1.json

1. Open the Instagram app on your phone
2. Head to the menu on your profile and click Your activity
3. Scroll to the bottom and click Download Your Information
4. Click Request a download
5. Click Select types of information
6. Tick Messages and click Next
7. Under Format, select JSON
8. Change the Media Quality to Low
9. Click Submit Request
10. You will receive an email confirming your request, with a link to your Downloads page
11. Meta will take a while to gather your information
12. Once complete, you’ll receive an email saying your download is ready, click the link in this email
13. Click Download on this page, this will download a .zip folder to your device
14. Extract the contents
15. On your device, find the folder from the extracted file with your fellow chatter’s name on it. Open this folder and choose message_1.json
